When I turn it on the screen is black. The dispay is still there but you cannot see anything. You can replay tapes. I bought a new battery and it is still black. Every once in a while it will work for a few seconds and then go black. Can you help? Is it fixable or should I start looking for a new one?
Sorry guys I seldom use my pc cause I am too busy with my works. It is confirmed they have already stopped fixing those bad ccds. As I've told others it is not fair.. hundreds of thousands of those camera with bad ccds are still on sale in the market, and if you're not aware of these recalls you will be fucked!!
Problem is probably a bad CCD imager. Go to www.samsungclassaction.com for more info.

Same problen here. It was working fine yesterday and then I tried to capture my son's first steps and lcd screen is black. When I close the screen, I can record. I have read on other boards that there is a faulty circuit that might need replacing for a nominal charge to me. For the money it costs, I can be on my way to purchasing a better model. Can the screen just burn out after much use? It appears very faint and then the whole camcorder shuts down until you shut the screen. Any clue what that is?
I have the same camera, same problem. Had it fixed back in March of 2005 under warranty. Used the camera last, last year in June to tape my daughter's kindergarten graduation. Since then, it has been sitting in the case, zipped up, in my computer desk. Took it out Saturday to tape her play and it didn't work--blank LCD and viewfinder when recording, but works when taping. I have found this same problem listed in many different forums. Someone posted in a different thread about a class action lawsuit www.samsungclassaction.com. Gonna try to call them tomorrow to get them to fix it, but if not, I'm getting in on the lawsuit. Obviously defective product.
