Your lens (reader) is damaged or scratched - for $35 go to walmart and buy a new one - best suggestion
Take it back to the store if its new or if you bought a warranty and trade it for a new one. If not try calling an electronic store and ask them if they know whats wrongs with it. Be sure to read the instruction manuel for a support phone number and call there too.

It's not new by any means.....Probably 4 or more years old. May not be worth fixing I suppose.
