I tried following methods and it solved my problem.
Turn OFF the camera, and pat the camera case (those metal parts) with your fingers with a bit of strength on each and every direction for several times while pointing your lens to different directions as well. Turn on again and it might work, if not, use some more strength (if you really can't use it now things could hardly be worse anyway...but avoid the LCD and those buttons). It looked that such problem was caused by some stuck focusing mechanism, at least in my case, and a bit of shock "resets" those lens to the original position, and we are happy.
Wahey!!!! wwwweagle you are an absolute star! I "hit" my dimage exactly as you said and hey presto I now have a useable camera again.

Just tried bidding (unsuccessful) for a Dimage on ebay after dropping my F100 (much loved) yesterday. Would not focus as above.
Quoted £87 to repair it.

I recently asked in my local jessops(uk) about this problem. They told me it was a sensor problem. They agreed it was a shame that, the cost to sort it out would be far from cost effective. Wether this was a sales pitch, i dont know! I am still holding on just in case a simpler & cheaper solution turns up!!

I have had my F100 for 4 years its a great camera and has given some fantastic pics. But, and its a big but, I find that when I switch it on it won't focus at all. If the subject is over 1 cm away you can't see it. Can anybody help me?
I also have this same problem!! One day it was fine, the next, this problem has arrived. Please help, as i find this a great camera and don't really want to change it. Many thanks.
Doesn't seems to me as a sensor problem since manual focus doesn't correct the focus as well. Much more like the focus mechanism just stuck and stoped moving by any means...
