Hi I have a friends acer aspire 5100 that was getting stuck on the wondows login screen.
So I used GPARTED and saw there were 3 partitions.
two were 50+ gigs and the 3rd was 4.11 gigs.
So I used GPPARTED to make one partition.
So I tried to format it but wouldn't see the drive. So I used GPARTED again and saaw that it wasn't allocated.
So I then booted with GPARTED again and now have a bigger problem.
Now it boots with beeps,, one long and two short so is a vid prob now as the screen is black.
any suggestions on how/what program to use
to get the drivers to install so I can see the screen?
It could be video, or memory. those are the two beeps. the best way i found is download nlite and slipstream service pack three into a new windows setup cd and it should work fine...for detailed instructions feel free to email me katriscomputers@hotmail.com
Get out the recovery disks you made from the files on the laptop (before you blasted the original partitions) and bite the bullet for a full reformat and re-installation. Your recovery disk info was most likely in the 4.1Gb partition that was so gleefully obliterated with Gparted. You probably don't have these disks, so you'll have to call Acer Customer Support and ask for recovery disks for your exact serial number.
You have now messed up the system as the 4.11 gigs was a partition with the full operating system on it where you could have reinstalled it back onto the other partition so you got the setup exactly the same as when he bought the laptop. good luck with that now
No offence but you should not have partitoned the drive if you dont know what the hell your doing buddy. and if i were your friend i would make you buy me a new computer. you are what we techs call a dfu.
dumb f**king user. Im sorry but I hate people who think they know it all by using this and that programs without any knowlege , my advice own up to your friend that you messed up his computer and offer to pay for a new one because you have totally fu*ked it up. you cant remaster it now cause you messed around with the partition .
i hope for your sake that you can remaster like gletkin said but i dont hold much faith.Â
you might be lucky if you press alt and f10 on start up it may remaster from a partition. but if by some miracle this works. Dont I repeat Dont try that again.Â
I apologise for being rude earlier but you really should have known better than to mess with partitions that is the operating system of the computer without that you have an expensive doorstop
FOR YOUR FRIENDS SAKE I WISH YOU GOOD LUCKÂ

I have used GPARTED many times and never had any problems as I have had with this one. This has NEVER happened before and is why I am surprised and am posting and don't need to be insulted thx.
As far as the backup disks no I couldn't create them and yes I tried.
The laptop would NOT pass the initial blue windows boot screen so was trying to format it and re-install a fresh copy of XP. HE wanted the partitions gone and only have one drive so I did as he asked and as I have done many many MANY times before onh other systems. And again,, I have used GPARTED many times with different pc's/lappys and is the first time it has screwed up like this.
Now I get a black screen with three beeps on boot.. one long and two short meaning video and I am assuming it means cause it is either screwed(video card) OR needs drivers.
This is why I posted.. to see if anyone has any suggestions as to how I can install something on a lappy with a black screen.
