No input detected on projector

Hello,

I have a hitachi pjtx-100 ceiling mounted projector that worked great when connected the following way: DVD Player>Component video cables>reciever>component video cables>projector.

I recently remodeled my house, and opted to run an hdmi cable instead of component video cables. Then I discovered that my projector does not have an HDMI input! -But it does have a DVI input. I thought the problem would be solved by buying a HDMI-DVI adapter. -No luck. The current configuration is: DVD>Component video cable>reciever>hdmi cable>hdmito DVI adapter>projector.

Maybe related- I bought a new Sony Reciever (STR DG 510) to take advantage of the HDMI output. Whenever I select "DVD" the message "unlock" appears on the display. There is now reference whatsoever to this message in any manual, so I can't get rid of it. Is the unit "locked, thus inhibiting the signal?

I'm pretty technically adept, and have gone through all of the motions of changing the input signal on the projector.

Also, the dvd player is about 5-6 years old...might the signal not make the transition from component video cable to hdmi? Thanks for your help!
Dave

It sounds like the A/V reciever does not upconvert the component signal to HDMI. Not many do. The Marantz recievers will (SR6001, SR8001, etc..). Also bear in mind that HDMI cables are finicky and may require amplification over a few meters long.
