Having trouble with automatic buttonholer it binds up with thread

Try an Even Feed Walking Foot for more control on thick and quilted type layers

Check your manual and follow the instructions. The error message may be listed in the trouble shooting at the back of the manual.

Probably will need to put on the buttonholing foot, pull down a lever which guides the machine to sew the length correctly and choose a buttonholing setting on the stitch selection.

Also, for good buttonholes, always interface the fabric to give it stability.

Adjust the stitch length so that it isn't too tight.

Make sure that you are using the buttonhole foot. It has a groove in the sole to allow the foot to pass over the bulk of thread.

If you still have problems, the reverse cycle balance (stretch balance) may need adjusting by a technician.

set you machine for "zigzag" then: try your buttonholer again.
Also; the thread tension can be adjusted by a small screw in the side of the bobbin for the bottom loop of the stich or, the tensioner on the side of the machine head for the top loop

You do need to adjust your stitch length to get the satin stitch look. Also, some of the auto buttonholers require you to reset the lever after each buttonhole to restart it.

When a machine does an "automatic buttonhole the feed does not move for a few stitches and maay jam if there are too many stitches made in this position. Is it an automatic buttonhole or can you choose how many stitches for your bartack? You ask about 0.5 well that is halfway between 0 and 1 on the stitchlength and this is indeed the recommended setting for buttonholes. If you are doing a manual buttonhole set your machine to this for the sides and zero for the bartacks but you only need about 6-10 stitches on the bartack. Fininsh it off securely by setting to straight stitch and stitch length zero for about 4 stitches to lock the thread in.

Your machine should have a special buttonhole foot which has a place to insert a button, You will probably have to pull on opposite ends of the foot to open it. Place the button in the foot and then squeeze it together to make the button secure. Attach the foot to the machine. It should snap on.
looking at the left side of the machine you will see your needle bar at the front and the presser foot bar at the back. You should also see another lever which needs to be pulled down so that it rests in the buttonhole foot.Select buttonhole on your machine and it should sew. The button determines how long the buttonhole is.

Here ya go! For 1 Step Automatic Buttonholes: 1. Place button into the buttonhole attachment. 2. Push slider to hold button securely in the slot. The button goes to the back! 3. Put button foot onto needle bar--just attach it securely. 4. Place needle thread and bobbin thread UNDER buttonhole attachment and let 4"-5" of thread trail behind it. 5. There's a lever called a Button Stop to the left of the needle bar. Give it a gentle tug and pull it down. Pull forward. Hear a click? Now the machine knows what length to STOP sewing! 6. Put foot on pedal and machine will sew barrack closest to you first. It will continue all around until it makes complete rotation of each side. 7. You must do these steps for each of your buttonholes! IMPORTANT: Make sure you set your dial for making buttonhole pattern because that "tells" machine to zig zag, and use appropriate size needle for the particular weight of your fabric. A new needle before you begin is recommended. Turn screw on needlebar to loosen screw. Hold it so it does not slip down into the feed dog area! New needle is inserted flat shank toward back of needlebar as far as it will go. Tighten screw. Did this help? Hope so!
