All questions need 'make model (what it is)'. We only have 'Scanner'. And then a clear question, what does 'scanner locked' mean? You are looking to lock it?

The scanner lock button on the Kyocera TASKalfa 4012i is located on the left-hand side of the machine, towards the back of the scanner unit. It is a small lever that can be turned to lock or unlock the scanner unit.
To solve the C3100 error on the Kyocera TASKalfa 4012i, you should first check to make sure that the scanner lock is in the unlocked position. If the scanner lock is already unlocked, the issue may be related to the scanner motor or the scanner home position sensor.
In this case, it is recommended that you contact Kyocera technical support or a certified Kyocera service technician for assistance in resolving the issue.

The scanner may have a locking lever that locks the scanner head so you can transport it without damaging the scanner head.
Locate the locking lever and unlock the scanner head.

Check your green scanner lock which is under the scanner area right in that area where your copies comes out of the machine. This is the most common cause of the "scanner locked" condition. The lock gets accidentally engaged as it is located right where you reach in to get your copies.
If the lock is not the problem then you may have a scanner drive issue.

It can also be the ribbon cable connecting the scanner to the formatter board. Check that it is connected properly.

Have you checked the obvious? The scanner lock switch is located on the bottom of the scanner back right corner. --Ted

Pls try locking and unlocking when power is off. S. Mohan

To unlock a scanner open it where you would put cartridges in and look for a red or green colored tab hanging down. There should be a little picture of a padlock. You can switch it from lock to unlock. It's kept locked to protect the scanner during shipping.

The scanner is locked. To unlock it:
1 Press Power to turn the printer off.
2 Use both hands to lift the printer (scanner unit) until the scanner support
holds it open.
To the left and beside the scanner support is the scanner lock. For help, see
page iv.
3 Pull the scanner lock toward you to unlock the scanner.
4 Using both hands, lift the printer (scanner unit).
5 Push and hold the scanner support back.
6 Lower the printer (scanner unit) until it is completely closed.
7 Press Power to turn the printer back on.
