My computer sounds like an airplane about to take off. It has been doing this for over a year. My bosses have done nothing to help and the noise is driving me crazy. I am trying to learn how to fix this myself.
Realty LTD, the following depends on your company's policies but if you are allowed, first thing is to check for driver updates in both Windows Update option and device manager. For Window Updates, Control Panel>System and Security>Windows Update. You may see links for important and optional updates. Check in both and look for specific hardware related drivers, not windows security and os updates. If there are any only update those. Next check Device manager. Control Panel>System and Security>Administrative Tools>Computer Management>Device Manager(on left panel). If there are any yellow yield signs and a carrot is open, right click it and select update driver. If none of this works please clarify further. Is the sound like a fan? Do you feel accompanying heat? Does it get loud only when using specific applications or is it all the time? Things like that.
Nick. I did everything you suggested, no help. After I told my boss I went online for answers, he checked it out and said I need a new power supply. Supposedly he is going to purchase one today and install it for me tomorrow. Riiiightt! lol...That will never happen. I have a son that likes working on computers and he said he would do it this weekend. Thank you for your help!

Hi Nick. Well I told my son to forget it. If my boss is too cheap to get it fixed, then I can just sit at my desk doing nothing. lol. Friday afternoon I spent the last hour of the day trying to get it to let me online. The noise stopped the day before, only because I think one of the fans stopped working altogether. I did a system restore and after that, I couldn't get online at all. I couldn't even open folders or use anything on my computer at first. It slowly let me open folders, etc. but never let me online again. I should tell you that I only have firefox on my computer, nothing else. My boss got rid of internet explorer and google chrome, saying they were taking up too much space on my computer. I'm about to throw my computer out the window.
