If I have to replace the electronic board do I have to replace the membrane as well.

Question

Nothing the membrane is not available anymore. Trying to find out what the membrane does and why I have to change it.

the membrane has tiny conductive traces within it and each button completes a different circuit when it is pushed, the traces cannot be revealed without mutilating the touchpad beyond repair...
