I have the same problem. I have HP Officejet 5610 All in One with an Apple MacBook Pro laptop with Intel. I've tried installing, uninstalling HP printer diskette for Windows XP which accompanied the HP printer BUT IT WILL NOT RECOGNIZE that the printer is even attached via USB.

Funny thing is, the test printer page will print (using the instructions posted on this site -- pressing the setup button on the printer and navigating through the buttons) AND my printer works when I switch from Windows to MacOS on the same laptop! This is very frustrating to say the least. It's been months since I've been able to print and now I really need to and can't find a solution....any suggestions that work? (anyone?) Thank you

I have exactly the same problem. It occurred after I unplugged the USB cable from my computer, then plugged it back in. The manual said to try turning off the printer, unplugging it in the back, then plugging it back in and turning it on again. Tried it, no dice. Tried Santosh's self-test recommendation, and the self-test paper printed. But Print jobs just sit in queue, and never print. Then, of course, when I hit "cancel," they still sit there, until I boot down the computer. HP's tech support, of course, is not answering their phone.

I have a Mac (OS 10.4) and having same problem. Jobs sit waiting, if i delete job and print again 1 out of 10 times it works. I went to the website and followed some info, cleaned the cartridge contacts on the printer and still same problem. I called HP and tech support wanted to charge me for help or tried to sell me a new one over the phone. Very frustrating.... worked fine for over a year and one day dumped on me :(

Hi Huges,

Have you tried printing an self test page from the printer itself,

if no then,
Press setup,
Use the arrow keys and go to the option that says print reports,
then press ok.

then go to the option that says self test report, and press ok.

If the unit even does not print this then it might be an issue with the unit, check the display on the machine and then reply me back.

Regards
Santhosh

Bye
