Four possible solutions
1. Remove the Sim Card & Throw the phone away in a recycle bin.
2. Cover the glass with a new screen protector & ignore crack.
3. Take the iPhone into an Apple centre & pay a modest fee to get the next model up (4s) which fixes the problem & gets you better technology.
4. Get a new glass & replace it yourself. Parts & repair guides are numerous on the net. eg. See www.youtube.com/watch?v=qhgvXO1wXfw
It never ceases to amaze me the number of people who bust their Smartphones. Some even regularly.
My son-in-law has dropped 2 in the water while fishing and he should know better as he is a radio technician.
You need to treat this amazing modern technology with respect!
Personally.... I have never broken any of the iPhones I have owned since 2007 and I change phones every 2 years & my wife gets the older technology. So thats 7 years & 4 iPhones!
Perhaps its because, over the years, I have repaired so many electronic/electrical devices.
I do have my phone on me all the time (except when fishing & diving etc) in some pretty harsh environments (e.g. fixing cars & prospecting in outback &... I have chipped the edge of one phone).
I have a respect for my expensive technology and that it has a large flat glass area that pressure or knocks can break. I just take 5 seconds to think ahead as to where I will be using it & I keep a silicone cover & screen protector on it at all times. I move it from my top shirt pocket to my front jeans pocket if bending etc. and the screen always stays on my body side while in the pocket.

Aren't you a little superior ? ! This was a teenager. I am her stepfather. Her father bought her the phone. She has broken phones before, so I had her on my plan with a used Android-based phone. Daddy decided that wasn't good enough, so all three girls got new iPhones. Hers lasted about a year before she dropped it when bumped by a boy who was rough-housing in the hallway at school. Yes, she should have had the phone in her case and/or in her pocket.

Yes! After rereading my text I guess you could take it that way.as not intenat way. Was meant to have a humorous side.... & I didn't realise that a teenager was at the other end. In future I'll stay clear of unrelated comments. So, hopefully the problem has been resolved by now! Cheers

Bad line was supposed to read. "Was not intended that way"

It's fine. I was kidding around, too! I'm typically not obvious enough (or not funny enough, LOL)!

Cheers.... Has the phone been fitted with a new glass yet?God.... Wish I could have have had an iPhone when I was a teenager. They didn't even have the brick phone back then. Just the red box on the corner. :)

No, I'm still shopping around for the best deal in the replacement glass/screen. I've replaced tablet glass/digitizers before, but this will be my first iPhone fix.

Growing up, we were one family with six children on a party line with at least 4 other families averaging ~3 children each. If you were lucky enough to get a line, the phone wasn't even fast enough to get to YouTube or Facebook!

Yeah! I understand.... I assembled my first computer in 1976 when we used an audio tape for mass storage. Obviously I'm showing my age now. At this age (64) I can easily say "Been there Don that"
