This is the error message that I am getting in the log report after an attempt to backup is ran in WinFax V10.3. My OS is WXP Home SP2.
<> C:Program FilesWinFaxDataStatus.WFD The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process. <> ** Did not commit changes to the above store **
The backup process cannot access the files to be backup'ed because it is being used by another process. So I would think other backup software will have the same problem? Is there a fix for this WinFax problem? I have rebuilt and optimized the WFD file/s per Symantec instructions but it keeps happening whether I backup manually or set up auto backup in WinFax. My data is not being backup'ed. It seems the only way I can backup is turn off/exit the controller and then go in task manager and end one or all of these processes as follows: WFXCTL32.EXE, WFXMOD32.EXE, WFXSVC.EXE, WFXSNT40.EXE and WFXSWTCH.EXE. So is this a known problem with WinFax or is there a fix that shuts the the inter fearing process off temporally or correctly so backup will work properly in WinFax? I see from other blogs that I'm not the only one who has this problem. Symantec is no help! This is the error message that I am getting in the log report after an attempt to backup is ran in WinFax V10.3. My OS is WXP Home SP2.

That is correct, you need to exit the WinFax Controller before you can back up any of the WinFax specific files, such as your phonebooks and send/receive logs. If you use the WinFax backup, it will shut down the Controller first before attempting to back up the files. If this is not happening, then you have a problem somewhere else.
I suggest you disable the WinFax Service in Control Panel, Admin,Services. Stop the Service and set it to DISABLED for startup mode
