Installation problems After installing the software IAW the setup guide the diagnostics say that with the SCANNER there is no communication ALL other devices OK ie printer/copier and fax? Tried reinstalling, and repairing the software suite as per the setup guide, still the scanner isnt recognised. Had Brother on the phone talking me through downloading drivers and trying to install them but when I look at the scanners and cameras, after the drivers have been seemingly being installed, in the control panel the scanner isnt there.........in fact there is nothing? very frustrating. I have installed the machine without ANY problems on my laptop and everything works? Something is stipping the scanner being recognised on my desktop....what? I have turned off the Windows firewall so its not that?.......................HELP!!

Thanks for trying but I have done ALL of this many times over. I have connected the MFC to my computer via USB cable which is not longer than 3 metres and is connected directly into the USB port at the back of my tower. I have downloaded the 'extra' files from the Brother website (with Brother software engineers assistance) and tried to install these on my computer but after seeming doing do successfully, when I look in the scanners and printers folder in the Control Panel the MFC is NOT there (nothing is there?). As I said earlier, I have installed the MFC on my laptop (Windows XP the same as my desktop) with NO problems???

    Thanks again

How do you connect the mfc to your computer/laptop? In case you use usb make sure that the cable isnt longer than 3m and it is connected directly to your comp/lap usb. Do NOT connect to a hub. This causes a prob with the scanner.
In case you have it installed within a network (RJ45) there is a guide which can be download from brother homepage of your country. It explains the settings and installing for the scanner and printer.
