Remote works with the factory setting of 1,2,3 ON and 4 OFF and no matter what I try, only that code works. Reason for changing it.... fan/light go on randomly. Suspect neighbors have same unit.
Don't forget you have to change the codes in BOTH the receiver & transmitter.

You need to completely disassemble the hand held remote unit, remove the rubber push buttons and clean the contacts. Mine do this frequently. The contacts are black and will be slimey. I just use soapy water and a soft cloth to gently clean them. Be sure to dry them completely before reassembling. Also be sure you dont get any of the electronics wet.

Many times this is caused by stray frequencies in the neighborhood. And, sometimes changing the frequencies on the remote and receiver reduce the occurrence.
But it sounds like this may not be the case, here. If not, the receiver in the fan is the culprit and should be replaced. No danger, just annoying.

I have the same fan. The fan and the remote have some "jumpers" which allow you to change the codes, useful if someone else nearby has the same fan. You can see the jumpers inside the remote, open the back cover... you'll see "4 3 2 1" on the circuit board. Unfortunately you'll need to dismount the fan to change its jumpers, they need to be the same as the jumpers in your remote (which you can move around pretty easily).

Your ghost problem was probably due to a loose connection. The wire has probably come completely loose or the heat from the loose connection has damaged the relay.
