Dvd fell inside my computer

If it doesn't work at all, go to My computer, right click>properties>device manager>hardware, then at the top you will see an icon that says(when you put the mouse over it) scan for new hardware. See it this shows the drive. You can also press F2 or DEL on boot up and highlight 'Standard CMOS Settings' and see if your drive is seen by the bios. You may have an option to press a key to detect all drives, or press enter on the 'secondary' line and see if it is recognised. If all this fails it may be that either the power connection to your drive has become detatched or the drive itself is faulty. Please rate this solution.

Its possible that the Dvd drive is not connected to your motherboard, but it is connected to the power supply inside your computer, this would give the illusion that its working, as it would open and close and 'make noises' but it would not be connected to the computer system so its useless.

You will have to get someone to take a look inside your computer and check all the wires are connected.

Only possible problem I can think of.

If you have CD/DVD that is enclosed to the DVD rom from the vendor, you should install that specillay the Player that is build with the DVD decoder.

Any way if you wan to play movie using the PC with the DVD Rom, You can use the Player that have a multiCodec and all the Movies in the DVD can be play.

your DVD ROM's lens has became weak.
and it cannot be repaired.
But if you manage to open the DVD ROM clean the dust in it & it will start working agaain but be careful remember that no power should be attached to ROM.

SOURCE: ACER ASPIRE 5100 DVD/CD ROM IS NOT DETECTED IN BIOS?

My Aspire 5100 not only looses the cdrom but also the hard drive! It sometimes beeps 3 times.. I'd go into set-up (BIOS) and niether the hard drive or dvd would be listed.. As a last resort, I flashed the motherboard bios with the latest version from Acer and so far the problem hasn't returned. I also set the laptop to hibernate after 30 minutes of non use when both on battery or on ac power. Reason? My problem always started when I left my laptop unattended for some time. When I'd return, the computer would be off.. not asleep or hibernating, but off - even though it was set to never turn off in the power settings in windows. When I'd turn it back on, that is when the hard drive and dvd rom would vanish in the BIOS. So as an added precaution, I set the laptop to always hibernate after 30 minutes.. Like I say, so far so good..
