Sound problems through subwoofer

Hi i have a yamaha reciever dvr-c300 and yamaha sub woofer nx sw-300. i have 2 front,2 rear, center speaker and a subwoofer. What i cant figure out during dvd play why the front right speaker only plays sound sub plays bass others nothing. but when i put it on surround i get all sounds through the speakers but not the people talking on the dvd. i checked all the speaker connections and they are correct.my reciever connects to the sub using a 15 pin connector cable which till i replaced the cable i had no sub woofer sound but all the other speakers worked at least.

Ive taken my sub out b4 so it could be a loose wire or bad solder job, or just as well as the sub could be blown
