Does not recognise disc

On loading a disc, my Denon DN-961FA makes a zik-zik sound as it tries to read the disc, which speeds up and slows down while this happens. Eventually, it will stop and display a code "85". This failure happened suddenly. Before this it would read a disk, and only skip occasionally. What to do? Also, where can I find a service manual?

Try to change the laser unitKSS-240A (opticals). In most cases problem solved. The "zik-zik" sound is made by the motors in the unit as the laser tries to read the CD.
Caution, after installing the new laserunit remove the short circuits on the laserunit itself. This it put there just to protect the laser from static energie faulure during repair.
