The volume down button is hard to get it to work. You have to push really hard on the button to make it work and that method doesn't always work. This is my second 550 model. I turned the first one back in for the same exact problem.
If it's out of warranty, take it apart and clean the parts.
Do a google search for cleaning tips.
My H628 had some dead buttons that didn't respond to cleaning, I used strong, thin double sided tape to attach a small piece of Al foil to carbon pad, then trimmed to fit. I did all the bad buttons and they all work now, at least till the tape falls off. If repair fails, I'll try foil and a dot of super glue and as a last resort I'll go for a $20 "Rubber pad remote repair kit". This is a silver containing paint that will restore the contacts.
This is a problem with all the Harmony remotes. The switches under the buttons have a short usable life. The other buttons on your unit will also fail one by one in the order in which they are used.
The company is famous for not acknowledging or taking responsibility for the problem.
Turn this one back too.....and try to have a light touch in the future.
