Linux drivers serial - SuperMicro Computers & Internet

Hey Anonymous! Unfortunately, the SSU-100 Single RS-232 Serial Adapter is only 'officially' supported on the following Operating Systems:

Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 2003


To the best of my knowledge, there is not a Linux porting of the drivers.However there is a Linux driver package for the Quatech ESU2-100 (see below)

I doubt they are interchangable.

have you installed drivers for the card, as windows might know what it is but it wont be able to use it till the drivers are installed click below onto what version of windows you have and download the drivers

Linux offers various tools. Linux uses ttySx for a serial port device name. For example, COM1 (DOS/Windows name) is ttyS0, COM2 is ttyS1 and so on.

Simple run dmesg command
$ dmesg ' grep tty

setserial is a program designed to set and/or report the configuration information associated with a serial port. This information includes what I/O port and IRQ a particular serial port is using, and whether or not the break key should be interpreted as the Secure Attention Key, and so on. Just type the following command:
$ setserial -g /dev/ttyS[0123]
Output:

setserial with -g option help to find out what physical serial ports your Linux box has.

i think you must see this specification first, and then you will know why your centOS unabled to install areca ARC-1210 serial ATA controller, if you was see at that site, it describe that areca Software Drivers Windows 7/2008/Vista/Server 2003/XP/2000 Redhat Linux and SuSE Linux FreeBSD Solaris 10x86 UnixWare 7.1.x Netware 6.5 Mac OS 10.4.x/10.5.x/10.6.x (EFI BIOS support)

Too bad - Linux rox.

You can google that question and get lots of hints and tips but the bottom line is the device you are using is not considered a simple chipset device and therefore this is not going to be a walk in the park.

if you are installing red hat 8 and higher there is no need to install extra driver because linux is the only operating system which will install everything including drivers, office suite,programming tools etc .... as far as my suggestion dnt install old versions of linux instead install new version ... there are many linux available
ex: fedora core 4,5,6 ,knoppix live cd linux ( which boots linux from cd no need install it) ,ubuntu,red hat,mandrake,suse ....
you can download it from net 4 free as linux is open source 4 all ...
be careful while installing linux especially during partitioning..... if u make a mistake you will lose all datas

You are not alone. Most people that are using Vista can't get wireless drivers or dial up drivers to work even when they are marked as Vista compatible. If your notebook has a serial port I would recommend buying an external modem. Usually weather or not you have Vista XP or Linux an external modem will work that is hooked up via a serial connection but if the vendors of your laptop were too cheap to put in a serial port your out of luck unless you can find a PCMCIA or PCI Express card that has dial up and a vista driver. You need to know if you have PCI or PCMCIA. Now if this is a new laptop I would suggest you take it back to wherever you got it and contact www.mindblowingidea.com/ComputerRescue and have them give you a laptop that has the ability to connect to dial up.

Secondly Dial Up won't work with Vista correctly because Vista is full of DRM (Digital Restrictions Management) and Trusted Computing technology that use to be codenamed "Project Longhorn" back in 2002. This requires Vista to send and recieve information from Micro$oft at all times to make sure your not pirating music, using non registered Micro$oft software, or using a dial up modem that does not support DRM drivers lol :) . It says this in the Vista EULA. Now the above company Computer Rescue does not sell any Vista Computers. They only sell XP and Linux computers. I'm sure you would appreciate that a lot more.
