When the computer is first started windows installer appearsautomatically on the desktop. It says, ''windows installer preparing toinstall'' and then something about a document viewer. This all loads fora few second and a new message appears saying,
''The feature you are trying to use is on a CD ROM or other removabledisc that is not available. Insert the document viewer and click ok''.
When clicking the red cross to close this window this message appears,
''error 1706 no valid source could be found for product Document viewer. The window installer cannot continue''.
When clicking the red cross to close this window this message appears,
''Microsoft.Net Framework
An unhandled exception has occurred in a component in your application.Click continue and application will ignore this error and attempt tocontinue. Object reference not set to an instance of object''.
Clicking on continue or the red cross to close does nothing the windowjust remains the same. The only way to get rid of it is ctrl, alt,delete and then select end programme for the document viewer.
How can this be stopped?
I have the CD Rom to fix it and it does fix it for a week then it happens again and keeps happenin,
would really appreciate the help

Unfortunately, this is a frustrating and widely reported issue. Apparantly the HP software is not compatible with Office.
If you have reinstalled the document viewer.msi file from your cd repeated times and you keep getting popups indicating its failure, you will need to uninstall the document viewer.
Here are the instrucitons, courtesy of Jasdev Singh:
">> If you have installed any all-in-one printer driver software then put the disc in
else follow Step 2:
Step 1:
>> Put the printer disc in and goto Setup folder and search for Document viewer folder.
You
will find two files under that. Double click on DocumentViewer.msi and
install that. if you right click you will get repair also.
Step 2:
>> if you dont have any disc then goto Control panel and select Add/Remove Program.
>> Remove DocumentViewer entry. "
If you can't uninstall from Add/Remove programs or don't find an entry for the document viewer there, go to this link and download the Windows Installer Clean Up utility Download, Install, and Run this application...
">> I am sure you can select DocumentViewer now and hit Remove button.
This will clear DocumentViewer from you computer."
Please also refer to this KB article for additional information about clearing your temp files, etc.

What operating system are you running, xp or vista?
Can you report back with the exact error message you are getting, and what is bringing it about?
Try this:
Follow the steps outlined in this Microsoft article to run chkdsk from My Computer or Explorer, select auto fix file system errors, then restart your computer, and let chkdsk run. It may take an hour or more, depending on how many files you have. You will need to just let it run without interruption.
Then reply with the results...

Seems to be good only been 2 days though but thank you very much for your help. Will let you know if anything changes but so far so good!
Im now getting similar thing but this time it asks for a scan disk so don't think it has solved it.
