Ariston Technologies Ariston AWD12 Front Load Washer/Dryer Logo

My dryer function will not turn off. I have an Ariston Margheritta AWD12 washer/dryer, last year I came home to find the dryer still running 2 hours after it should have stopped. I spoke to an electrician friend who made some enquiries but couldn't find the solution. As it happened it eventually let me go back to using it as normal but the "0" position, ie. off, kept changing. It has now failed again and no matter where I put the timer dial it will not turn off, as the timer being at 0 is the off function it means every cycle goes to dryer and has to be finished manually, I'd therefore be very grateful for any suggestions? (sorry if I've over done the detail).

SOURCE: Ariston frontloader - dial spinning around and won't start a cycle

Your bearings are almost certainly gone which would explain the noise not an easy job or cheap . Normally it would consist of a tub change or at best a bearing hub . As for the clicking round of the selector Iwould suggest poss the heater or brush fault. As ofr price you'd have to ask your local repair man. Worst case sinario approx £200 .00

SOURCE: Ariston Model details not handy - but has a manual setting dial on the right!

It would be nothing to do with the time in storage if that was a problem it would have shown its self on the first wash. The three most likely faults would be,no pump due to small blockage ie: button or coin, damaged pump, seized Next fault could be an open circuit heater, if you put a multi meter across the two contacts with the wires dsconnected, and if you select continuity it will beep. If you have a Ohm meter select a low range you should get around 23 omhs.Lastly the brushes in the motor could of worn, or the motor itself could be wrong do a continuity test on the contacts. If you have Insulation resistance tester make sure the machine on a whole has enough resistance ideally above 3 Megohms, prior to doing that test you must do an earth continuity test. MAKE SURE YOU DISCONNECT FROM THE MAINS

i would never suggest working or attempting to work on a machine covered by guarantee but this sounds like there is a fault with the heat cycle, obviously the machine keeps tumbling until the heat reaches the right temperature, with a heat fault it will not advance, to test without removing screws etc, press any heat option button like economy or turn heat dial to no heat etc, see what happens next. hope i have helped, if so rate me please, please note most engineers know if a machine of that age has been worked on and this will void any guarantee

To dry you need to turn the program to the little 'star' sign after the program 8 and not before. You then need to select the time you want the dryer on for, if you don't select a time the dryer doesn't come on...........not filling is a problem, it may be ythe electrics or it may be that there is something wrong with the door -if the machine thinks trhe door isn't closed it won't fill up but this machine generally uses a small amount of water and wil not actually fill up as such anyway......hope that helps!

SOURCE: dial continuously turning

hiya
to reset the dial, switch the power off, then turn the dial to a dot on the selection then switch the power on, the light should flash about 3-4 times this should be it reset.

for the machine to start doing this mid cyle though usually indicates something is wrong, i would hazard a guess at the pump filter is blocked and the mahine was trying to drain at the time it started clicking.

the best thing to do is empty the machine manually by placing the outlet hose into a bucket or large dish, once empty remove the plastic kick plate on the bottom of the machine and behind this you will find the filter.
before you unscrew the filter you will need to place some towels or old cloths on the floor as there will still be water left in the pipes, remove filter and any foreign objects (possibly coins, hair clips etc) and then screw back in. job done.

hope this helps

please dont forget to rate the helpfulness of this reply, thanks kj
