I have a number of short cuts on my desk top that I use frequently.
Many times when I click on the short cut the computer responds that the address is not correct and tells me to check it. The address of course is correct. I added memory to my computer hoping it would eliminate this problem and speed up my work. No improvement.
If I shut down the computer and restart that usually resolves the problem, but I don't want to have to do that 2/3 times a day. Any suggestions; please don't get too technical on me.
In my opinion, you have some type of malware running.
Do this: click on start and run (in Vista, just click on start)
In the little box that opens up, type msconfig.
When that window opens, click on the startup tab in the top of the window and choose disable all in the lower right side.
Restart the machine and see if it is fixed.
If so, you have stuff running that shouldn't be there.
You can go through the process, above, and enable things one at a time to see when it fails again.
First, though, I would scan for viruses using an online site such as www.trendmicro.com and use the housecall online scan.
You can also visit www.superantispyware.com site and download and run that utility.
When the system is clean, you can visit the msconfig and re-enable those programs that you are sure you need on startup.
If this helps, let me know by rating this solution.

When I started having this problem I did use "system restore" in the "tools" program. The initially resolved the problem but it kept coming back. i was using the "restore system" procedures 2/3 times a day. I discussed the problem with a repair guy and he suggested I may need more memory but I saw no improvement after installing a 1G memory.
Actually, I didn't do anything to my laptop but for the past four or five days I have not had a recurrence of the problem. If it does occur again I will take the suggested action to see if it resolves the issue.
Thanks for your suggestions.rperry38
Try performing a full destructive restore using actual disks and not the restore partition.
Sounds like you needs on Operating Restore. I would back up all important data and reinstall the operating system. If the issue persists after that or issue occur while reinstalling. Possibly defective HDD.
