Or someone messed with your bios settings. When your computer boots up it should say a key to press to get into bios settings, if you can't see it just look in HP's support section of their website, and it should tell you there. When you get into bios settings, make sure the hard drive is at the top of the 'boot list' so it detects the hard disk first. If it still doesn't work, then you have to try reformatting/reinstalling windows, or get a new hard drive.
