NE56R31U Gateway No bootable device

old gateway , now owned by ACER.com
the old Gateway in Seattle went BUST.
yours 2012 made, not too old, and is ACER for sure inside.

here is the list of top fails, and cures.
1: remove the big battery and test PC, run ok now, on AC only.
it must even forever.
2: replace the RTC coin cell battery at 7year max old. (its time)
3 ;the HDD is bad. we run HDD tests on it now., in this order

learn that if the RTC bat. goes dead the NVram forgets
and with NVram forgets the BIOS can find the perfect HDD.
that is why ORDER matters. for that reason.

if after replacing any RTC bat. we go in to BIOS and reset BIOS to defaults inside BIOS, then make sure boot order inside BIOS
shows, HDD 0 first. and is not missing, if missing HDD may be dead. HDD can fail in 5 years on cheap laptops. and for sure bumped or dropped.

if you'd looked in bios. the hdd is missing in boot order or not there, RTC coin dead, is first but most of these old laptops
the HDD can in fact fail hard at only 5 years old. (avg)

My hp pavillion dv7 keyboard lock lights keep flashing; at one point the computer didn't want to boot up; I finally got that up today after six months. But the cap lock and the number lock lights still...

those are POST code, error codes, you need to watch time and count them. report them.
leave the battery main out.
does it run ok now? yes/no.? main battery out?.
even new cheap batteries fail easy and hard and short out.
test it with no main battery. it can run on AC power for ever.

are you going to run the COIN cell RTC battery for 10 more years.
it wont make it..
this PC is 10 years old today (can be) so is RTC battery end of life. most fail in 5 to 7 years, says the pink bunny. (and is correct)
the manual shows how to replace it at the real HP Site,
fixya is not hp, not at all.

page 63 shows the way to the RTC

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01918142

if you power on the PC, and hammer the f10 key]
BIOS runs, its menus;
check the time and date here, if wrong the RTC battery is dead.

read page 3 how.

  • old PC have many points of failure (endless it seems)
  • does the fan run? is it packed in lint, as all are this old.?
  • causing it to overheat?
  • RTC coin cell bad.
  • main battery bad. (just leave it out until the PC runs right again)
  • power pack wires broken, or running real hot.
  • HDD going bad,
  • windows infected?, no OS stated but avoid XP.

Bad chip rtc please reboot

Error cannot be resolved. The internal memory is failing. You can try a powercycle about 5 to 25 times in a row. Powercycle is removing the power cord and plugging right back in to the terminal. RTC = Real Time Clock, cannot be fixed, replacement device will be needed if the powercycle option does not work.

Bad rtc chip please reboot

RTC is the Real Time Clock or the Modem within the terminal. This error means that the device is failing and would need to be replaced at some point. To resolve you would need to powercycle many times in a row until the screen with show "TAMPERED", then it will go to the Sale, Refund, Void screen and you can run transactions. This error will arise in the future. RTC error cannot be resolved for good. Thank You!
