I push the button and nothing happens. I opened the case and the small green light on the motherboard is lit. No lights come on on the front of tower and no diagnostic lights come on on the back of the tower. I got out the multimeter and the first thing I checked was the button/switch. There is continuity when the on/off swithed is in the depressed position. I then unplugged the power supply from the motherboard. Power supply unit looked good with the green wire jumped to ground the fan came on and the voltages looked good at 3,5,12volts at the different colored wires. Is there anything else to check? Is it a bad motherboard?
May sound strange, but is the power supply switch in the correct position?
If the button is pressed, makes your continuity test, and not even the fans come on, check that the switch jumper has not come loose from the motherboard, and finally, if the motherboard is plugged in and no fan comes on when you push the power button, there may be chipset damage from an electrical surge or overheating.
In this case, a new mobo is your only option.

power supply switch in 115v position - ok
front panel button passes continuity test if held in manually. If released no continuity.
plug from switch to motherboard is in good.( is that what you mean by switch jumper?)
Don't know if this helps? about a week or two before it died, when turning off computer, it would start shutdown but it could take anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes or more to completely shut down. you could hear it. The same type of sound like on startup.
Power supply fan will only come on when disconnected from mobo when green wire jumped to grnd. rechecked all voltages -they are good.
