Paper sizing error

After I print and envelope I get a paper size error and the only way to clear the error is to unplug the printer and plug it back in. The printer works great up until I manually feed paper. How can I fix this problem

It says printer is out of paper but isnt. I found very old (2006) notes online about this but no fixes are available now.

Solution #2 WORKS! Just when you use the #clear option.. select "ALL" it will reset everything but all you have to do is simply re set the paper size to letter as it seems to default to A4 size once it re-initializes. What a nightmare this was..

I started getting Paper size / cassette / "insert lgl" paper type errors that I could not clear. I tried the update firmware on canon's site and got no answers... but I figured this out. After getting the error, unplug the cable from the computer and the power. Plug the power cable back in and press "copy" button before the error lite starts flashing again. Then press "menu" and "#". Press the <- button until you get to the "#clear" option then press "set". It re-initializes. After doing so, go into the menu and set paper settings to "ltr" or whatever size paper you use.

Check the settings for the manual tray paper size. Make sure it is set for envelopes. If it is the paper pick up roller may need to be cleaned. You can try looking where the envelope feeds in and cleaning that rubber roller with a rag and some rubbing alcohol. If this doesnt solve it let me know. John
