There is a thin stream of water coming out from under the shower handle of my washer-type faucet whether the shower is on or off. What is the problem and how can I fix this please?

  • Arun Ballie Jan 19, 2009

I'll still have to try this solution but it seems very thorough and logical. Even if the new washers don't I believe that it should be the valve that needs replacing. Thanks so much! I really appreciate you helping me out and in less than a day! Wow, you're so fast, efficient and helpful!

Turn off the water, remove the handle, escuchion, and stem.
Replace all washers/O-rings. If it is a plastic stem, replace the stem.

The seals are worn, allowing water to pass by.

On some really old valves, the actual metal walls of the valve eventually get worn, and washer replacement does not completely solve the problem, or last long. In that event, replacing the valve is about the only option.
