Low disk space

I have a 3 year old Compaq CQ2103WM computer with a 139GB Hard Drive and 1GB Memory running Windows XP. I began getting low memory and high cpu usage messages doing routine tasks. Then I started getting low disk space messages. I have since deleted most software and files, but everytime I regained some space it would be back down to very low or 0 bytes within hours. I scanned my system with Disk Cleanup, CCleaner, Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool, Norton disk cleaner, ARO 2012 and Malwarebytes. No virus or infection was found. I tried to download AVG from several sites but kept getting "file is corrupt" error messages. Now I cannot save or copy or backup files or software. My Norton backup files were somehow deleted. I can't print because of low disk space and my home network is not working properly, I can't add a new laptop or print from my old laptop. The computer also makes the whirring sounds associated with a non-working fan. I replaced the fan, but still get the noise. Is it possible this is a hardware problem and not a virus or malware?

This couldn't be due to a malfunctioning fan, or any other hardware problem, it certainly sounds like a virus but it's hard to know. I advise using this guide t try and remove any viruses or malware.

After deleting more files, I was finally able to download AVG and the scan found a rootkit and removed it. AVG reported "Service function NtMapVie Infected" It also found a corrupted executable file. Both were removed and after reboot, it declared my computer "clean". This was 4 days ago and I have not lost any disk space since. Thank you for all your help and suggestions.

SOURCE: I have a Compaq CQ2103WM computer running Windows XP, it currently has 0 bytes of disk space. What could be causing low disk space after running disk cleaner, Ccleaner, deleting most software, progra

You need to do a chkdsk on this and see what comes up with that. This will check all of the partitions. It may be that the drive is bad. On start up you can hit f10 and perform a disc scan as well.
