In my laptop cursor(pointer) cannot be moved by rubbing fingertip on the small pad on laptop which we generally use to move the cursor(pointer) in a laptop. But the cursor(pointer) can be moved by using a mouse.
To stop the mouse jumping around whilst you are typing, have you tried configuring the touchpad? I had the same probelm but found configuring the touchpad to "disable whilst typing" then settng the "reactivation time" to one second.. This seemed to solve the problem in my case. This happens to me also. Check whether the touchpad is enabled (laptops do have an option of enabling / disabling the touchpad). Secondly, you can try reinstalling the touchpad driver. Uninstall and then re-install the driver. Re-boot the system. Try using the touchpad.
