Each time I turn on my camera, I need to reset the time zone, date and time. Any suggestions on how to remedy this? Have I missed a setting somewhere. The camera is 6 months old and I am not entirely familiar with all the functions.
Thank you, thank you! This camera (Power Shot A510) does have a backup battery that is easy to get to. Under the rubber flap where you connect the cable, there's a little door you can pull out with your fingernail. There is a CR1220 battery - can be found at any jewelry store, as it is a watch battery. I replaced that and viola! No more messing with the date/time every time it powers off/on! THank you so much!
For those having problems with having to enter the date/time everytime you start the EXILIM Z/S series camera .. the solution is simple - press the SET button once date is entered. I had this problem for 2 days .. couldn't figure it out. Then realised that I had been pressing the 'MENU' button once entering the date. This of course doesn't save the date and the camera keeps asking your for a date everytime you turn it on!
There is not an option to remember the date/time when you power off the camera. The camera should always remember the time. If it forgets the setting when you power it off then your backup battery has gone dead. Check your manual to see if it is something you can replace yourself. I checked the manual and it indicates that there is not a backup battery for this camera. It states that the date and time will reset if the camera is not powered by the battery or cradle for more than 30 hours. I have charged the battery, and the battery indicator is full. The camera seems to be working perfectly except I need to reset everytime I turn it on?
I also must set the date and time every time the camera is turned on. I removed the face plate and some components to look for the backup battery and couldn't really see any to speak of (I assume it would be a small 3 volt or hearing aid battery).
My manual also says that this camera somehow saves settings without a back up battery (perhaps it uses a capacitor or very long life, low outpt battery, like a thumbdrive), so I'm not sure it even has one. If it indeed uses power from the battery to save settings (hence the 30 hour rule), but the camera turns and takes pictures fine, so the connection between the battery and at least the "awake" part of the camera doesn't seem to be an issue.
Well, I just read the manual more closely and it's actually ambiguous. On page 16, the manual says, "this camera does not have a separate battery for the clock." However on page 48, it says, "A built-in backup battery retains the date and time settings of the camera for about 30 hours if the camera is not supplied with power."
I don't understand though, how even if the backup battery is dead, the main battery wouldn't provide power to save the settings.
I've also upgraded the firmware, formatted the internal memory, and performed a reset through the menu.
