Since it hasn?t been mentioned yet I?ll throw my two cents worth in as well. If you are able to get this to boot I would strongly suggest you immediately backup your data, favorites, email and anything else of value to you. Four times out of five this type of problem is ultimatly due to advanced hard drive mechanical wear and will probably happen again within a few months. If you have your data safely backed up it will make it a lot easier for you to replace the drive later on.

Hi It's a good solution sure, but you can try to repair the Windows's installation too. Start with the original CD Windows, accept the firsts options, there is an option Repair (R), don't use that one. After that, you can chosse the second option Repair (R), this one erase only the windows installation but not the data and reinstall windows with all the programs, drivers and data intact. Santanu You should try selecting "LAST KNOWN GOOD CONFIGURATION". While this kernal error prevents your machine from booting I am 90% sure your "data" is safe. There are many trouble shooting processes we can try to get the machine running,"maybe",but saving your data first is paramount. This error has been a pre-cursor to failing hard drives. As long as the hard drive doesn't fully crash you(or someone)can retrieve the data. You may want to take it in to your local technician. I am not sure how comfortable you are working with the hard drive. ..but you could remove it hook it to another machine via usb swappable drive(w/40 pin adapter), you should be able to see your data and copy. You may want to purchase a new drive for the laptop,(assuming it is only the hard drive) reload the OS and then try the above. If you don't feel comfortable doing this or don't fully understand "CONTACT A PROFESSIONAL" Good Luck, Tim
