SOURCE: restriction code for nokia 6300 locked in fido

Hi,
The security code, if you did not change it is mentioned in the user manual book. For Nokia cell phone, it is usually 12345.
This is the code the phone asked you to enter when you change your SIM card.
The code only asked once for every SIM card, unless you reset your phone. To disable this code, enter menu settings, Security, Security Level, change it to memory or none. To change this you need the security code.

SOURCE: keep saying insert SIM card

You are trying to use a SIM from another Network or Handset but your phone is LOCKED to your old network and/or to a specific SIM card and number: this is why it is asking you for the unlock code to remove the restriction. It you are no longer under contract or obligations (such as minimum total recharge amounts for apre-paid handsets), then you could try to request the unlock code from the original service provider of your handset.
As for asking to insert SIM card, make sure that the SIM is correctly and securely inserted in your handset SIM holder. Also check that the SIM is still functional by inserting it in another handset: SIM card can be permanently and physically disabled if you attempt to enter too many consecutive invalid codes (usually around 10).
Hope it helps and good luck!

SOURCE: Asking restriction code while inserting

The restriction code is just another name for the SIM unlock code or subsidy unlock code. They are all the same thing. All SIM unlock codes are tied to the particular device IMEI and are carrier specific. The request for that code would need to be made from the carrier that the phone was originally manufactured for. Each carrier has their own guidelines as far as what requirements have to be met before that code will be given out. This is a free process in the US.
