There are two possible causes for you problem:
First. The defrost timer is probably loose internally. Replace it. If it occasionally malfunctions the defrost heater will not work which can be a cause for the evaporator freezing/frosting up.
My advice, replace the timer and you should eliminate the problem(s). This is a do-it-yourself that is in expensive and not difficult to do. You can get everything that you need at a local appliance parts store or check out Siemens parts on their website. CLICK HERE for the Siemens parts website:
Second possibility: The possible cause for the freeze up is that the coil is colder than it should be. There are several potential areas of concern that you might have experienced,
A faulty coil causes items in the crisper drawers to freeze. This is the most common
problem I have seen with the Siemens refrigerator.
There may be an air flow
problem if the drain assembly has iced up and ice
is partially covering the air vent.
If necessary, turn the
adjustable feet up or down so they contact the floor squarely.
If you've experienced leaking
under your refrigerator, it may be caused by a condensation tube that doesn't
drain into a pan or by a clogged freezer drain.
