I had the same problem.Adding twain_32.dll to the Windowsfolder solved the problem. For people who don't want to search for it: Look Here.
Then you won't get this error but one saying to reinstall the printer driver. Just do it and the problem is solved.
If you have a Canon Pixma and you cannot scan because of "insufficient memory", then try this:
go into My Pictures -> MP Navigator
Then delete all the dated folders in there. They are the past scans you have done, they eat up your memory.
Get a USB 2.0 printer cable. Sometimes Canon multifunctionals with scanners wont work correctly because the older USB cable can't pass the data quick enough.
I had two error messages - one was "insufficient memory" and the other - when Navigator was half working "insufficent memory - abort scanning". I also found that the Scansoft OCR icon was non-functional. I tried updating drivers and installing the updated version of MP Navigator from the Canon site. All to no avail. Eventually I reinstalled from the original disk. This would not work until after I turned off my CA firewall AND the virus scanner. It is now working - fingers crossed!

You possibly have driver issues. Uninstall and reinstall printer.

I click to scan on my MP160 printer and an error saying "MP Navigator - Insufficient Memory" pops up, ive uninstalled and reinstalled and it says the same thing...any other suggestions?
I have the same problem on MP830. Worked well for 12 months but not now. Have deleted and re-installed drivers but no success
I have this problem also of insuficient memory error but i dont know how to fix it.Anyone who could help?
Same problem. I have a Canon MP810 and I can't scan as MP Navigator 3.0 won't run and gives an error message saying "insufficient memory". My o.s. is Windows XP (Home Edition). The printer part works fine, but I notice that nothing is listed in the Scanners and Cameras folder of the Control Panel. Should there be?
I'd appreciate any help from out there please!

Same problem - Canon MP810, Windows XP Pro, 1Gb RAM.
Reinstalling driver makes no difference.
Canon MX7600, Vista Home Premium SP1. Same problem. Reinstalled drivers - same problem.
nothing you said worked
Same problem here. Identical probvlem both on XP Pro an dVista Home Premium. I have plenty of RAM, so this must be some crappy software.
Same infuriating problem as everyone else - will scan a couple of things, then pops up with the 'insufficient memory' message yet again.
Went in and emptied the entire folder of old scans, but it doesn't seem to have worked, unfortunately.
