Flashing HI Until a few months ago my 928's given great pics. Then, midway thru a roll, HI starts flashing. Results: on/off switch, zoom [seems stuck] nothing works but HI keeps flashing. Read in manual that it could mean a major defect. Need to know before I take it in for repair. Also, how do I get the roll out safely to try and save the exposed film? Thank you.

First, remove, the battery, and then reinstall it.
This will change the "Hi" to "0" temporarily.
Then do the following:

How to safely unload a partially exposed roll:
Follow the procedure described on page 21 of
your operating manual.
1. Turn the main switch ON, and hold down the drive button for more than 3 seconds. A roll rewind symbol appears, and a dot
starts blinking on the LCD panel, indicating that the mid-roll film rewinding mode has been set.
2. While depressing the drive mode button, depress the shutter release button. Film rewinding starts. When a roll of film is rewound to its end, the motor stops, and "O" blinks, indicating that the back cover may be opened safely.

By doing this, I was able to save my partially exposed roll.
However, the camera still needs to be repaired.

There is a flexible ribbon cable carrying signals from camera body to the lense assembly. Due to regular use it gets worn out, thus it gets broken and is not able to perform the task for which the camera has given the signal. in your camera also the same flex cable is broken. Get it changed at some good repairer
