When my camcorder is directed to a bright area the display starts to flash. This happens in the LCD display and the viewfinder. If the image I'm looking at is fairly dark the display is fine. However when the ambient light is fairly bright the display will flash or pulse. No error messages are displayed. I tryed removing the battery pack and the lithium battery to reset the factory conditions. No affect. Any ideas ?

I had the same problem with Samsung SCD103. It was sent to the factory January 2007($150.00) and everything worked fine until last week when the grandkids came down. The camera simply stopped displaying any image, the viewfinder went black. I suspect is a failure on the CCD. Now, I have a non-working camera that I've bought extra batteries for and lots of DV tapes. I won't buy another Samsung product now that I've seen the problems and apparent lack of concern for the customer!

SOURCE: Samsung MiniDV Digital Camcorder model SC-D353
Manufactured Oct 05, my Mini DV Camcorder SC D353 LCD screen went white with vertical colored lines when opened more than 1/4 of the way. I'm sure there had been less than 10 hours on it, so this is not a wear and tear issue. It's a component ill suited for the stress of a pivoting LCD screen.
After my internet research I've determined that the problem is a broken flexible lcd ribbon that cracks around the hinge / pivot joint.
After writing to Samsung USA and Samsung Canada, and getting the run around from them and service centers reparis and shipping exceeding the value of the camera and technicians telling me its not worth repairing, part prices ranging from $50 - $150, Samsung's finally referred me to the place, http://www.globalsemi.com/ .
I entered part number AD97-06489 and to my surprise found the part listed for $4.51, Canadian and located in Mississauga, just west of Toronto.
It is also found it here

So I'm going to pick up the part tomorrow and I'm going to try and do it myself. I think $4.51 is worth a try. Pray for me :) Cheers
PS Can anyone direct to the service manual?
