Replace waveguide cover - Sharp KB6525P 1000 Watts Microwave Oven

If your microwave's waveguide cover is severely burnt, it is generally recommended to replace it rather than repair it. The waveguide cover is designed to be transparent and protect the antenna or magnetron from food splatter and grease. To replace the cover, follow these steps:
1. Identify the replacement part number from your microwave's user manual or contact the manufacturer.
2. Order the part from the manufacturer, authorized dealers, or reputable appliance parts suppliers.
3. Turn off the microwave to ensure safety.
4. Remove the old waveguide cover and secure it using screws or clips.
5. Place the new waveguide cover in the same position and secure it using the appropriate screws or clips.
6. Test the microwave to ensure the new waveguide cover is in place and functioning correctly.
Replacement is crucial as a burnt or damaged waveguide can affect the microwave's performance and cause further damage to internal components. If you have any doubts or are uncomfortable with the replacement process, seek professional assistance or contact the manufacturer's customer support for guidance.

The right side wall cover plate is the "waveguide cover."

It protects the waveguide and the magnetron at the other end from moisture, grease, and food particles.

If these remain stuck to the waveguide cover, arcing can occur, which will damage and / or destroy the cover, the waveguide or even the magnetron or the oven chassis.

As with most problems, this should be addressed sooner rather than later or it will only get worse, and may become unrepairable.

The similar Sharp model R-530E-series service manuals are here and here. They will help with disassembly, but the external / cosmetic parts will not interchange.

The oven cavity and waveguide must be clean and if any spot is scorched or chipped, it must be sanded smooth, cleaned and dried, then touched up with appliance paint, available from local big box stores, home centers, appliance parts stores, and hardware stores.

Leave the door open overnight to dry the paint. Then install the new waveguide cover.

If the chassis or waveguide have holes in them, the oven must be scrapped and replaced.

That would be your waveguide cover. If damaged or discolored, the waveguide cover has been damaged by heat and must be replaced.

It protects your waveguide and magnetron from arcing due to grease and food particles.

The area of the waveguide behind the waveguide cover should be clean, and if rust or flaking is present it must be sanded, then repainted with high temperature appliance paint.

For Dacor model DMT2420S, the waveguide is part number 66345 and you can get it from The Pros here for $11.07 (subject to change).

The Magnetron has failed, causing the waveguide to become damaged. If the waveguide is damaged/burned the microwave can not be repaired and should be replaced.
