Please contact your local service representative or original point of purchase for help.
The Service Call indicator looking like a spanner or wrench: Service Code Error 486 - char_ric20.gif shows that an error requiring inspection by service representative has occurred in the device.
If the problem is a sensor malfunction, you may be able to solve it and turn the indicator off using one of the following methods.

  • Turn the main power of the device off and on again.
  • If some parts or supplies were replaced recently, try removing them, replacing them again, and then turning the main power of the device on off and on. (If the device is interpreting imperfect parts detection as an error.)
  • The device might be interpreting extreme changes in temperature as an error. Turn off the main power switch, wait for a few minutes to cool it off, and then turn it on.
    Note:
    • If a fax is being sent or received, or printer data is being received, turning the main power of the device off may result in data loss. Ensure that the device is not being used for faxing or printing before you try turning the main power of the device off.
Note that "main power" means the actual, physical power switch.
