I accidentally disabled the wireless button on my HP pavilion dv4000 and I can't figure out how to enable it again. Please help if you are familiar with this problem. The wireless connection is enabled through the BIOS page. However, when I pull up the HP Wireless Assistant the System Status indicates Wireless Button Disabled and is grayed out, so that I cannot swith to enabled. Under Device Status Wireless LAN is also marked as disabled and the Turn on/Off button is grayed out, so it cannot be changed. Any ideas?
After one month of trying everything, I finally figured this one out. First turn off and restart your computer. Then press F10 to enter the System BIOS Settings. Select F9 (Setup Defaults) and when it asks Load Default Configuration Now? , Enter YES. Then, press F10 (Save and Exit) and when it asks Save Configuration Changes And Exit Now, Enter YES. This should restore the wireless LAN button to its original factory settings. Once you restart the computer the button will be listed as disabled, but press on the button and it should work again. I hope this helps someone else out!

I had the same problem. Reloading the default settings in BIOS does fix this, but the easier, overlooked solution for me was pushing the touch sensor just above the keyboard for enabling and disabling the wireless and bluetooth. This was for an HP Compaq 6710B. If you don't have the touch sensors, there should be a function key that does the same thing, usually F2 or F1.

Sorry, but this was not helpful. The wireless network adaptor was already enabled. It's the wireless button that is disabled. Also, in Windows XP to make the solution you suggested, you must click on System, then the Hardware tab and then the Device Manager button. You can also access the same information and enable/disable the network adaptors simply by right-clicking on the selected network adaptor from the Network Connections panel.
I have the exact same problem with my computer. The wireless button is grayed out and I can't find a solution to fix it, no matter what I try. The suggested solution did not work for me either. Called HP and they want to charge me at least $50 for the solution. Hoping to find one online instead!
I had problems with my laptop and had to reinstall Windows XP Home. Everything is fine except the wireless assistant has disappeared.
There's wireless icon in the right-hand task bar.
Went into the Device Manager as suggested, but under Network Adapters, all there is 1394 Net Adapter and Ethernet NIC. Both are enabled, but there's no wireless. ???
