I can't initialize on FCP

Hi, Glad you're here. I can't initialize my GV-HD700 to Final Cut Pro. I have a tape in the VTR, but the Log and Capture window tells me it can't initialize, and to make sure the deck is connected. It is, with Firewire. A direct connection to the front of my Dual Core Intel Power Mac. All other connections were taken off the front of the Mac, and I started in many ways: 1. with the VTR hooked up and on with an already running Mac 2.  with the Mac off and the VTR hooked up and on before turning on the Mac 3. with the Mac off and the VTR unplugged, turning the Mac on, and then replugging the VTR Firewire back into the Mac.
The HD settings in FCP are good, as far as I can tell. The VTR's are also.  I'm out of ideas, and would love some advice. I've got to get up and running again! Thank you, Shari Dyer

If you are capturing HD, go into the menu > IN/OUT REC > i.LINK CONV and set it to off, and A/V->DV OUT to off. Go into FCP and go to the File Menu and select "easy setup". In the easy setup menu set the "Format" to "HDV" and set "Use" to HDV - 1080i60. Click "Setup". Now go to File > Log and Capture (command-8). You're now set to capture. Just queue your tape and hit "Capture Now" or set in and out points and capture "Clip".

If you want to capture SD footage, then on your Sony unit, go to the menu and set the i.LINK CONV to "on". In the easy setup menu you will want to set "Format" to "NTSC" and "Use" to DV-NTSC".
