Camera lens The lens itself is making a strange noise and it is having trouble adjusting itself when the camera turns on. When I attempt to turn the camera on all you are able to see is a black screen and there is also a buzzing noise which I assume is the lense trying to adjust itself. The lens is trying to push itself outwards but it is getting stuck. I'm not exactly sure what is wrong with it but I assume that once Iam able to fix the lens I will be able to use the camera normally again.

Broken gears is common on the sony cameras. They have very brittle gears and have more torque then the gears can handle. They just break teeth off. There was probobly some small debris (sand, dust) stuck in one of the teeth and it got to that point and jammed then broke those gears off. There is a repair guy on e-bay that is really good with sony cameras. His name is "darntoothysam" all he does is repairs digital cameras and sony is one of his major brands he repairs. he has a website also and is very cheap. He repaired 2 cameras for me and i couldnt believe how cheap it was thats why i recomend him.

Spounds like theres a problem in the lens gearing system. if theres a jammed gear and you try to force it you WILL cause 3 times the damage to the mechanism.I fyou know how and only if you know how to dissassemble the front case as well as the lens cover then see if when yoiu loosen the drive motor if you can move the unit or lens assy. if you can then the gear system inside the motor its self is bad and the whole motor assy has to be replaced. if I were you I would contact number800-488-7669 and find out what they charge to repair the camera. Good Luck
