My dvd does not appear to be tuned in properly as
It sound to me like some of the rca cords have wiggled there selfs loose, If you can locate those and make sure there plugged in tightly. Or even replace them. If they are always getting pulled when the dvd player gets moved around. It should go back to normal.

Red and black are usually power and ground. I know in some overhead units the domelight control is either green or purple depending on whether or not the car is positive or negative switching. You choose one or the other. Im not entirely sure what you are asking in your question but maybe this bit of info will help.
Open message when closed/disc wont spin
I figured it out, it was the little plastic sensor stick that tells the unit that the lid is closed therefore reading the disc. cheap piece of plastic that has surely snapped on many a unit. good luck replacing it. i rigged it though problem solved
Can't get sound through car speakers/radio
I there is a DVD in the system and the machine us still saying no disc- try several different standard disks- it may not- like 'burned computer type disks'
If ttill in trouble assume the unit is faulty.
DVD player skipping
have you cleaned your laser lens if not buy a cd cleaner disk and make sure the disc is not scratched

I think you can see the lens of the DVD's laser. If so get some glass cleaner, and a Q-tip. Dampen one tip of the Q-tip with the glass cleaner and clean the laser lens. Use the dry end of the Q-tip to dry the lens

Hi don't know if this helps but the long grey lead that comes with it has a specific connector that also rund the pwer to the screen if the dvd player you have is not a necvox dvd player or tv tuner it wont work as the screen takes its power fron the dvd player through the grey lead
