Why does my nuvi 1490 keep turning off?
My first question is: Is this happening when connected to an external power source such as a car charger/adapter? or is this while on battery power? If on battery power, then the battery is not fully charged or is weak and can not hold a full charge. There is another possibility too and that is that the battery is not receiving voltage from the charger because the rear mini-USB port is loose (a common problem on the Nuvi 11xx, 12xx, 13xx, 14xx & 25xx models). One more issue can be the firmware version. Older firmware was unstable and caused the unit to reboot. If you are getting constant pop-up messages that the unit is about to shut down, then this is a good indication of a USB port issue (loose or broken). When this happens, the battery can not be charged and the unit will turn off. More information can be found here:

Why doen't my garmin nuvi 2595 turn on?
Is the battery dead? Try it with the external power attached, see what happens. If still no go check the fuse in the end of the car charger, it may have blown.

Do you have custom POI's loaded that are set up for Speed/Red Light cameras? As far as I am concerned, the 1440 does not alert to speed cams out of box...

make sure it is installed. you probably only installed the lower 49 states. also BC is in Canada. if it is a Nuvi 40 or 50 you may have bought a lower 49 states device by that A-hole bestbuy agent swearing that it really does have canada just to make the sale.

How to reset garmin
I assume you are talking about a VivoFit. it automatically reset overnight. if it is not, be sure to sync it up with Garmin Express to make sure it has all software up to date. otherwise call Gamrin for a replacement

Garmin troubleshooting
on the "Where to" screen look for "near" or "searching Near", press on that and you can choose a different search location. otherwise you may have the wrong region installed. use Garmin Express to change coverage regions
